How are these betting sites ranked?
By the margin measured on their match-result prices across 5 competitions in our August 2026 study, keenest first. Nothing else feeds the order — not bonus size, not commercial terms, not our own opinion of the product.
Which UK bookmaker had the keenest prices?
In this sample Betfred, at a 6.02% margin, or £5.67 per £100 staked. That is one capture window on one market type and is not a claim about today’s prices.
Which was the dearest?
BoyleSports, at 11.83% — £10.58 per £100 staked. It is a commercial partner of ours and it is listed last because that is where the measurement puts it.
Is the keenest bookmaker the best one to use?
Not necessarily. Price is one property of a betting account. Settlement speed, market depth, limits, product range and customer service are not measured here at all, and a keen average margin says nothing about any of them.
Do you earn money from these links?
From 9 of the 18. The order of the list is set by the measurement and is not adjusted for commercial reasons, which is why a partner sits last. The other 9 operators have a full page each and no link, because they earn us nothing.
Why do you publish operators you earn nothing from?
Because a ranking that contained only our partners would be a different and much less useful document. All 18 measured operators get the same page, the same figures and the same regulatory record; 9 of them simply have no link at the bottom.
Are all these bookmakers licensed in Britain?
Yes. Every operator listed holds a current Gambling Commission licence covering remote real-event betting, resolved through its registered domain on the public register. The licensed entity and account number are printed on each operator’s page.
Why do Coral and Ladbrokes show the same licensed entity?
Because they are the same licence holder. Both are operated by LC International Limited under one Gambling Commission account. They are still separate books: in this sample they finished 0.68 points apart and published the same prices in only 21 of the 58 markets both of them priced.
Did any two bookmakers publish identical prices?
Yes. 3 pairs of brands published the same set of prices in every market both of them priced: BetVictor and Betano; Casumo and Grosvenor; LiveScore Bet and Virgin Bet. The typical pair in this sample agreed on 1.8% of markets, so that is not a coincidence of a tight market. Each pair is set out on the operators' own pages.
What does the margin figure actually mean?
It is the overround: how far above a fair book the whole market is priced. Add the implied probability of every outcome; a fair book totals 100% and the surplus is the charge. It is explained in full, with the formula, on our method page.
Why is the cost figure lower than the margin?
Because they measure against different things. A 5% margin costs £4.76 per £100 staked, not £5.00, since the margin is measured against the fair book and your cost against your stake. Both are printed here.
Do these margins apply to every market?
No. These are match-result markets only. Margins vary by market type and an individual match can sit well outside an operator’s average.
Why are some UK bookmakers missing entirely?
Two operators we hold arrangements with — Midnite and NetBet — did not price every competition in the basket at capture, so they are not in the study at all rather than averaged from partial coverage.
Do you record regulatory action against these operators?
Yes, where the Gambling Commission currently lists one against the licensed entity, with the date and published outcome, whether or not we earn from that operator. It appears on the operator’s page.
How often is this list updated?
It reflects the capture window shown at the top of every page. It is a dated study rather than a live feed, and we make no promise about when the next capture happens.
Can I check these figures myself?
That is the intention. The formula, the basket, the exclusion rules and the two test vectors are all published on the method page, and our odds calculator runs the same arithmetic on any prices you enter.
